Called support, who offered to replace it. A month earlier the printer broke down (never happened with Canon for 4 years).
I must have bought it around 3 months back, got enrolled in the HP Instant Ink program as well. HP printer - Flaky product and horrible supportĪfter nearly 4 years of using a Canon printer, I decided to move to an HP one to save on cartridge cost. Maybe if HP looses enough customers they'll change the way they do business. At the very least people should know about HP practices. UPDATE: Since posting this comment on the HP community forum I have filed a complaint with the BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU. My last reaction in dealing with this issue will be to copy this letter to the Better Business Bureau and any other place I can give my review of HP too. Therefore I'm giving up on this problem, giving up on HP printers and because my sister and daughter have this identical problem will advise them to do the same. I am completely exhausted trying to rectify this situation. Now I find out HP wrote some code in the new version firmware that won't allow a downgrade of that firmware to the older version. I have the latest version of firmware loaded on my printer, thanks to HP and it will not accept the newer HP cartridges. Ironically HP has discontinued this version cartridge making my printer obsolete. After hours online, and I mean hours of researching this issue I found out that HP automatically upgraded my printer firmware online and now it won't accept HP newer cartridges, only accepts the older version HP 950 ( CN045A ) cartridges. I kept getting a error saying that this cartridge was not compatible with my printer.

Two days ago I went to Walmart and purchased a HP 950 XL ( CN045AN ) ink cartridge and tried to install it in my printer. I now have a HP office jet 8600 Plus printer and additionally advised my daughter to buy the same one when she was looking to update her old printer.On top of that I also advised my sister to purchase a HP printer stating the quality of HP printers to her. I'm 74 years old and I have always purchased HP printers and have always used HP ink cartridges.
